Gleneagles is one of the greatest names in the world of golf. As recent hosts of The Ryder and Solheim Cups, it’s easy to see why. Gleneagles Golf Course doesn’t just comprise one challenging course - it’s got three. The PGA Centenary Course, King’s Course and Queen’s Course all offer the golfer a unique and enjoyable experience. The PGA Centenary Course is due to be a venue for the 40th Ryder Cup Matches in 2014, and the King’s Course is known worldwide. The Queen’s Course, on the other hand, is a little more secluded, but perfect for days when it’s just a relaxing game you’re after. The PGA National Academy Course offers the ideal warm-up round for beginners and experts alike, with nine holes to beat and excellent staff on hand. Professional coaches offer training and guidance to improve the performance of enthusiastic beginners, and use the latest computer software to analyse your game. After a hard day on the green, head to any one of Gleneagles’ food and drink retailers. The Dormy Clubhouse offers tasty dishes to fuel your stories of the day, and at The Halfway House you can pick up anything from a hotdog to a hearty broth.

If you play one non-links golf course during your visit to Scotland, The King's Course at Gleneagles is probably your best option. It's an old world, James Braid design full of flavor. Bunkers are monstrous, there are blind shots and plenty of difficulty, but peppered in are some delightful shorter holes and an overall sense that this is the ideal amount of challenge one would want in a round of golf. The surrounding scenery is surreal and pace of play is excellent. The resort, of course, is 5 stars all the way. It's roughly an hour's drive from St. Andrews, so be sure to stop by for a round if you can.

A great visit as always. Staff are always excellent. Both lunch in the bar and dinner @ the Strathearn were fantastic. Food is always one of the highlights of a visit. Full body massage at the spa is one of my favorite ways to spend a chilled afternoon.
